New Delhi, July 24: Veteran politician Dr. Karan Singh has expressed deep concern over the ongoing unrest surrounding the alleged NEET examination irregularities, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure that students’ concerns are addressed at the highest level. His statement comes amid nationwide protests over the controversy.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Karan Singh said that as a Ph.D. student himself and a former Chancellor of four universities, he is deeply concerned about the welfare of students across the country. He remarked that the present situation could have been avoided had the concerned Union Minister resigned following the NEET controversy.

Dr. Singh appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene effectively so that students feel they are being heard. He stressed that police action, however harsh, cannot be a solution to the broader issues facing the country’s education system. He also called for comprehensive restructuring of India’s educational policy, suggesting that it could be undertaken through a new Education Commission.

Expressing relief over climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike, Dr. Singh extended his sympathies to both the students and police personnel who were injured during the recent protests in Delhi. He wished all those injured a speedy recovery.
