Rain halts traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway,Teams deployed to clear debris; commuters advised to avoid travel until weather improves

Ramban, July 22: Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was suspended from both ends on Wednesday following heavy rainfall along the entire stretch, which triggered multiple incidents of shooting stones and mudslides at several locations in Udhampur and Ramban districts.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that traffic was suspended from both the Jammu and Srinagar sides as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of commuters.

They said multiple incidents of mudslides and shooting stones were reported at vulnerable stretches in Udhampur and Ramban districts, rendering the highway unsafe for vehicular movement.

Meanwhile, teams of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have been deployed at the affected locations to clear mudslides, shooting stones and accumulated debris.

“Restoration work will be taken up once the weather improves and the affected stretches are declared safe for traffic,” officials said.

They advised commuters not to undertake any journey on the highway until the weather improves and the road is declared safe for vehicular movement.—(KNO)
