Kathua Receives Highest Rainfall in J&K as Heavy Showers Lash Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, July 22,: Kathua recorded the highest rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir during the 24 hours, receiving a massive 153.4 mm of rain as widespread showers continued to batter the Union Territory, triggering flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in several districts.
According to rainfall data compiled by ‘Kashmir Weather’, Samba received the second-highest precipitation with 133 mm, followed by Udhampur at 132.6 mm. Jammu Airport recorded 67.7 mm of rainfall, while Jammu city received 62.1 mm. Katra recorded 58.5 mm, Poonch 51 mm, Ramban 49 mm, Batote 46.1 mm, Reasi 44.5 mm, Rajouri 40.8 mm and Bhaderwah 36.8 mm.
Among the remaining districts of the Jammu region, Banihal recorded 25.3 mm, Doda 24 mm and Kishtwar 23 mm of rainfall.
In the Kashmir Valley, Gulmarg emerged as the wettest location with 55 mm of rainfall, followed by Baramulla with 37.5 mm and Tangmarg with 28.2 mm. Pahalgam received 23.8 mm, Lolab 22.4 mm, Nowgam Handwara 21.2 mm and Awantipora 21 mm.
Other stations that recorded significant rainfall included Bumhama Kupwara (19.8 mm), Qazigund (19.6 mm), Kokernag (17 mm), Batkoot (15.5 mm), Pulwama (13.4 mm), Kupwara (13 mm), Babapora (11.4 mm), Shopian (11 mm), Kulgam and Sopore (10.2 mm each), Sonamarg and Asham (10 mm each), Khudwani (9.5 mm), Charar-i-Sharief (9.4 mm), Srinagar and Sangam (8.5 mm each), Wular (8 mm), Pampore and Ganderbal (7 mm each), Srinagar Airport (5.9 mm) and Verinag (5.3 mm).
In the Ladakh region, Leh received 5.2 mm of rainfall.The widespread precipitation came amid an active monsoon spell that has severely impacted several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to flash floods, overflowing rivers and streams, landslides, damage to infrastructure and disruption of normal life in many areas.
