No immediate flood threat: Jhelum River Water Level Well Below Danger Mark, Public Urged Not to Panic

Srinagar, July 22: The Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Kashmir, has confirmed that the water level in the River Jhelum, Wular Lake, and all major tributaries remains well below the danger mark, urging the public not to panic or pay heed to rumours.

According to the latest gauge readings recorded at 3:00 PM on July 22, 2026, the River Jhelum was flowing at 5.54 ft at Sangam, 0.64 m at Pampore, 7.91 ft at Munshi Bagh, and 5.89 ft at Asham, while the water level in Wular Lake stood at 1575.37 metres—all safely below the prescribed danger levels.

The department also reported normal water levels in the major tributaries. Vishow Nallah at Khudwani recorded 2.72 m, Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi 0.06 m, Lidder Nallah at Batkoot 1.14 m, Doodhganga at Barzulla 1.33 m, and Sindh Nallah at Doderhama 1.87 m, all remaining well within safe limits.

Meanwhile, Director, Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that although heavy rainfall continues across Kashmir, there is no immediate flood threat in the Valley. However, he advised people to remain cautious, as intense showers could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, flash floods in vulnerable locations, and landslides.

Authorities have urged the public to stay calm, avoid rumours, and rely only on official advisories and updates issued by the concerned departments.
