All Gates of Salal Dam Opened as Heavy Rain Swells Chenab River

Jammu, July 22,: Authorities have opened all gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district following a sharp rise in water inflow into the reservoir due to continuous rainfall across the district and its upper catchment areas.
The decision was taken to regulate the increasing water level in the reservoir as persistent rain continued to feed the Chenab River system.
The controlled release of water from the dam, coupled with heavy inflows from upstream, has significantly raised the water level in the Chenab River, resulting in strong currents and a swollen river downstream.
Officials have advised people living along the riverbanks to remain vigilant and avoid venturing close to the Chenab, warning that water levels may fluctuate depending on further rainfall and reservoir management requirements.
The release comes amid an intense spell of monsoon rainfall that has affected several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, triggering flash floods, landslides and disruptions to road connectivity in multiple districts. [KNT]
