Price hike: Amul and Mother Dairy Increase Milk Prices

New Delhi, May 13: Amul and Mother Dairy have announced an increase in milk prices effective from Thursday.

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Mother Dairy said that from May 14, the retail prices of all milk variants will increase by ₹2 per litre.

The spokesperson said that the cost of procuring milk from farmers has increased by 6% over the past year, making the price hike necessary. The statement added that only a partial burden of the increased cost has been passed on to consumers.

The spokesperson also said that 75% to 80% of the total revenue earned from milk sales goes directly to farmers.

Mother Dairy token milk will now cost ₹58 per litre instead of ₹56. The price of full cream milk is now ₹72 per litre, toned milk ₹60 per litre, and double toned milk ₹54 per litre. One litre of Mother Dairy cow milk will now cost ₹62, while Pro Milk will cost ₹72. All variants have been increased by ₹2 each.

Amul has also announced a ₹2 per litre increase in most categories across the country. It too attributed the increase to the rising procurement cost from farmers.
