Srinagar Police Expand Ground Surveillance with Canine Units to Target Drug Networks

Srinagar, April 24,: Srinagar Police has intensified its anti-drug enforcement operations by deploying a specialized narcotic dog squad at multiple locations across the district as part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at building a drug-free society.
The move is part of a sustained enforcement drive under a national anti-drug initiative, with trained sniffer dogs stationed at key checkpoints to detect concealed narcotics and assist in identifying suspected drug peddlers. Officials said the canine units are being used to enhance on-the-spot detection and strengthen field-level surveillance.
The deployment is aimed at disrupting narcotics supply chains and increasing the probability of interception in transit zones. By integrating dog squads into routine checking, police are attempting to improve both speed and accuracy in identifying illegal substances.
Authorities said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy focused on dismantling drug trafficking networks and creating a deterrent against drug-related activities. The intensified checking at checkpoints is expected to increase visibility of enforcement and restrict the movement of contraband.
Parallel to enforcement measures, awareness campaigns are also being conducted to engage the public and reinforce the importance of collective responsibility in tackling drug abuse. Police have emphasized that community cooperation remains a critical component in addressing the issue effectively.
Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to eliminating the drug menace and urged residents to share credible information that could assist in curbing illegal activities linked to narcotics. [KNT]
