Srinagar, March 31,: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has ordered a change in school timings across the Kashmir division, with new schedules set to come into effect from April 1, 2026, officials said. The revised timing will apply to both government and recognized private schools. The move comes as part of seasonal adjustments in school operations, a routine administrative measure aimed at aligning academic hours with changing daylight conditions and weather patterns in the region.
Under the new schedule, schools falling within the Srinagar municipal limits will function from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Schools located outside municipal limits of Srinagar district and in other areas of Kashmir province will operate from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, the order stated.
Officials in the School Education Department said the revised timings are intended to ensure uniformity and better management of school hours across the region.
“The order shall be adhered to strictly by all the concerned institutions without any deviation,” the Directorate said in the official directive.
Education authorities further directed all Chief Education Officers and administrative officials to ensure strict implementation of the order across their respective jurisdictions.
The Directorate has also circulated the order to senior officials including the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners, and police traffic authorities to facilitate coordination and ensure smooth implementation.
The change in school timing follows a pattern of periodic adjustments made by the department throughout the year, typically influenced by seasonal weather conditions in Kashmir, where winters are harsh and daylight hours vary significantly.
Authorities said the updated schedule will remain in effect until further notice, subject to future review depending on weather and administrative requirements. [KNT]
