Samba, March 23,: A mysterious blast occurred near a residential property in a border village of Jammu’s Samba district, officials said.
The explosion took place around 2 am near the main gate of the residence of former sarpanch Jai Ram Sharma in Gawala Talab village, located in the Ghagwal sector, approximately 10 km from the International Border, they said.
The blast uprooted the main gate and damaged a portion of the boundary wall, but no casualties were reported, officials added.
The incident has raised concerns in the border belt, prompting immediate deployment of police and forensic teams to the site.
Officials said forensic experts collected samples from the scene to determine the nature and cause of the explosion. The exact source of the blast remains unclear, and investigators are examining multiple angles.
Senior police officers also visited the site soon after the incident and supervised the initial investigation, they said.
An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway, officials added.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, and authorities have not ruled out any possibility, including the use of an explosive device or other causes, pending forensic analysis.
Locals in the area reported hearing a loud explosion during the night, which caused panic in the otherwise quiet village. However, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the house or nearby residents.
The Ghagwal sector, located close to the International Border, has in the past witnessed heightened security vigilance due to its strategic location. [KNT]
