Sehri, Iftar Arrangements Row Sparks Appeal for Punjab CM’s Intervention

Punjab, Feb 24,: The Jammu Kashmir Students Union on Tuesday alleged that several Muslim Kashmiri students studying at CT University in Punjab were threatened with eviction from hostels and cancellation of admissions after seeking basic arrangements for Sehri and Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement, the union said it has received serious complaints from students who are regular fee-paying boarders at the university. According to the union, the students had requested that meals be made available at appropriate timings in the university mess during Ramadan.
Instead of addressing what the union described as a legitimate request, the students allegedly faced intimidation and were warned to vacate the campus. The union claimed that senior university functionaries responded with harsh language and threats rather than facilitating the arrangements.
The union asserted that no student should face hostility or coercion for observing their faith and maintained that educational institutions are meant to be inclusive spaces that uphold constitutional values and equal treatment irrespective of region or religion.
The Bhagwant Mann was urged to intervene in the matter, order an impartial inquiry and ensure that no student is harassed or academically penalised for practising their faith.
The union sought immediate action to safeguard the dignity, safety and academic future of the affected students.
