Security grid intensified on Srinagar-Jammu Highway ahead of Home Minister visit

Srinagar, Feb 5,: Security arrangements have been ramped up along the Jammu Srinagar National Highway, with special focus on the Navyug Tunnel stretch in Qazigund, ahead of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the enhanced security plan is being overseen directly by Additional Superintendent of Police NHW Qazigund Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, who has been monitoring the arrangements on the ground to ensure tight coordination among various units.

The deployment is being executed by senior officers including the SDPO and SHO Qazigund along with the officer in charge of the Navyug Tunnel. Additional police and security personnel have been stationed at key points along the highway to maintain vigilance and facilitate safe and uninterrupted movement.

Apart from increased manpower, authorities have also activated modern surveillance systems. Wall radar installations and thermal detection equipment have been put in place around the tunnel area to strengthen monitoring and enable early detection of any potential threat.

Police officials said the exercise is being carried out in line with directions issued by SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhury and forms part of standard security protocols during high level visits.

Authorities described the arrangements as preventive in nature, stating that the primary aim is to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and secure the movement of dignitaries and commuters along the busy highway corridor. [KNT]
