Jammu, Feb 5,: National Conference leader Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that both parties were working in tandem and speaking the same political language inside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Addressing reporters, Sadiq said there was no real difference between the two parties, except the colour they represent. He claimed that the Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma wears orange while Waheed Parra dons green, but both echo identical narratives during Assembly proceedings.
Sadiq squarely blamed the PDP for what he termed the destruction of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the situation began deteriorating the moment the PDP entered into an alliance with the BJP in 2014. He said the political decisions taken during that period had lasting consequences for the region and its inhabitants.
The National Conference leader further alleged that the present government was powerless due to what he described as the follies of the BJP, claiming that governance had suffered and democratic institutions had been weakened as a result.
Referring to the ongoing political developments, Sadiq said his party welcomed the visit of the Union Home Minister to Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed hope that the Home Minister would honour the promise of restoring statehood to the Union Territory at the earliest.
He said the restoration of statehood was a legitimate demand of the people and essential for safeguarding democratic rights and ensuring accountable governance in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
