Union Home Secretary to Review Security Scenario Ahead of Republic Day in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 14,: A high-level security meeting will be held in Jammu later this afternoon at the Jammu Convention Centre to review the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in sensitive areas along the Line of Control and the international border.

The meeting will be presided over by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and will be attended by Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka. Top security and police officials are also scheduled to participate, including the Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, Inspector General of Police Jammu zone, senior officers of the Army, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal.

Reliable sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the meeting will focus on a comprehensive review of the security apparatus, with particular attention to recent drone sightings reported along the Line of Control and adjoining areas. The recent encounter in the Kathua district is also expected to be discussed in detail, along with measures to prevent any escalation of militant or cross-border activities.

Security preparedness ahead of Republic Day celebrations will form a key agenda item during the meeting. Sources indicated that deployment strategies, coordination among security agencies and intelligence sharing mechanisms are likely to be reviewed to ensure a peaceful conduct of national events.

The meeting comes at a time when security agencies are maintaining heightened alert across the Union Territory in view of recent developments and upcoming high-visibility events. Officials are expected to assess ground-level challenges and finalize measures aimed at strengthening surveillance and response capabilities.

Sources added that the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau are also scheduled to visit forward border outposts tomorrow to obtain first-hand assessment of the security situation on the ground. [KNT]
