Pulwama: Police in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday averted a major safety hazard after intercepting a load carrier vehicle at Litter and seizing six barrels of highly inflammable material, suspected to be petrol or diesel, which was being transported illegally without any valid permit or authorization.
Officials said the vehicle was stopped during routine checking, and upon inspection, it was found carrying large quantities of inflammable fuel in violation of safety norms. Given the extremely hazardous nature of the inflammable substance, police immediately seized the vehicle along with the barrels to prevent any potential explosion, fire incident or threat to public safety in the area.
Police sources said the illegal transportation of such inflammable material posed a serious risk not only to commuters but also to nearby habitations, especially in densely populated localities. The timely interception, they said, helped avert any untoward incident.
Following the seizure, FIR No. 02 of 2026 under Sections 303(2) and 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Police Station Litter, and investigation has been taken up. Police said efforts are underway to trace the source of the inflammable fuel, ascertain its intended destination and identify the involvement of other persons, if any, in the illegal activity.
Further investigation in the matter is continuing. [KNT]
