Rajouri: Daily wagers on Monday staged a protest in Rajouri district of Jammu, demanding implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, regularisation of their services and immediate government intervention to address their long-pending grievances.
The protesters said they have been working for years on a daily wage basis under various departments but continue to receive meagre wages without job security or legal safeguards. They alleged that despite repeated representations and assurances from successive governments, their demands have remained unaddressed.
Addressing the gathering, the protesters urged the administration to ensure that their issues are formally discussed during the upcoming Budget Session in Jammu. They said the Budget Session offers an opportunity for the government to take concrete policy decisions in favour of thousands of daily wage workers who continue to live under economic uncertainty.
The daily wagers warned that failure to discuss and resolve their demands would force them to intensify their agitation. They announced that if no action is taken, they will stage a protest outside the Jammu Assembly to press for their rights and draw wider attention to their plight.
The protest concluded peacefully, with workers reiterating that their struggle would continue until the government fulfils its promises and ensures justice to daily wage employees. [KNT]
