
Srinagar, Dec 30,: At least eleven fire incidents were reported from different parts of the Kashmir Division during the past 24 hours, resulting in damage to residential, commercial and agricultural properties, officials from the Fire and Emergency Services said.
Fire tenders and personnel responded promptly to all distress calls and succeeded in containing the blazes, thereby preventing further spread and averting larger losses.
In Srinagar’s Umar Colony area of Lal Bazar, a three-storey residential house was damaged after a fire broke out. In north Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district, a single-storey school structure at Dewan Bagh caught fire, causing damage to the building.
In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a haystack used as cow fodder was gutted by fire at Chewa village in Safapora. Meanwhile, in Letpora area of Awantipora in Pulwama district, a shed constructed with GCI sheets was damaged in another incident.
Kupwara district witnessed two separate fire incidents. At Pir Khan Abad, a walnut tree was damaged due to fire, while in Magam area, a cowshed was affected, causing concern among locals dependent on livestock.
In south Kashmir’s Shopian district, a shop was damaged in a fire incident at Bongam.
Another residential structure was affected in Kulgam district, where a double-storey house caught fire at Gund area of Qazigund.
Officials said the remaining incidents involved minor fire outbreaks, which were brought under control in time, preventing major damage to life and property.
The Fire and Emergency Services Department has once again appealed to the public to strictly follow fire safety advisories, particularly during the winter season when the use of heating appliances increases. People have been urged to immediately inform fire services in case of any fire-related emergency to ensure timely response. [KNT]
