Protecting Public Trust: EOW Kashmir’s Firm Action Against Economic Offences in 2025

Srianagar,Dec 29: The Economic Offences Wing, Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K recorded a highly productive & impactful year in 2025 by taking decisive action against a wide spectrum of economic crimes across the Kashmir Valley. Working in strict adherence to its mandate of accountability, transparency, and rule of law, the Wing dealt with complex cases of fraud, cheating, forgery, & financial irregularities, thereby reinforcing public confidence in governance and institutional systems.

During the year, EOW Kashmir demonstrated exceptional investigative capability by successfully disposing of 100 case FIRsinvolving serious & intricate economic offences. These cases required meticulous scrutiny, detailed analysis of documentary & digital evidence, & sustained coordination with various government departments, banks, & financial institutions. The timely disposal of these FIRs stands as a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and commitment of the officers and staff of the Wing.

In addition to registered cases, the wing played a vital role in public grievance redressal. A total of 1,270 complaintsreceived from members of the public and government agencies were thoroughly examined and resolved during 2025. Each complaint was carefully assessed on factual and legal grounds. Wherever required, appropriate legal action was initiated, while other matters were resolved through lawful guidance, ensuring transparency, procedural fairness, and timely relief.

Preventive vigilance remained a key focus area. In 2025, 290 Preliminary & Miscellaneous Enquiries were conducted to verify facts at an early stage, identify cognizable offences, and prevent disputes from escalating. Several issues were effectively resolved during the enquiry stage itself through legal clarification, thereby reducing unnecessary litigation and conserving valuable public resources.

Job-related frauds formed a significant portion of the cases handled. These included fraudulent promises of government employment and overseas job placements, often targeting unemployed youth. The Wing also investigated numerous land frauds, impersonation cases, cheating incidents, and document forgeries, with particular attention to illegal job consultancies operating in the Valley.

The Investigation Agency addressed multiple cases pertaining to fraudulent insertions in revenue & service records, including the use of fake and forged certificates for the wrongful gains under government schemes. The Wing also investigated serious cases of misappropriation of public funds & criminal breach of trust by public servants, leading to the detection of misuse of public resources. In addition, cases of corporate and company fraud involving financial irregularities & deceptive business practices were thoroughly examined. Despite an increase in workload & case complexity, efficient disposal was ensured through close supervision, regular review meetings, and enhanced coordination.

During 2025, organized networks of land brokers, habitual offenders, and professional fraudsters involved in systematic economic crimes were identified and booked under law, sending a strong deterrent message.

The EOW remains committed to protecting public trust and urges citizens to stay vigilant and report economic offences promptly to ensure a transparent and secure economic environment in the Valley.
