Udhampur, Dec 16,: An encounter between security forces and militants is continuing in the Soan Martha area of Udhampur district, officials said on Tuesday.

During the ongoing operation, two more personnel of the Special Operations Group sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. Officials said the injured SOG men were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition has been described as stable.

The encounter follows a fierce gunfight that broke out yesternight in the same area, during which an SOG man was killed while confronting the militants.

Official sources said one militant is believed to have been neutralized so far, although confirmation is awaited as the operation remains underway. The area, comprising dense forest stretches, has been cordoned off, and additional forces have been deployed to prevent any escape.

Search operations are continuing to ascertain the presence of any remaining militants in the vicinity.
