
Srinagar, Dec 16: The cold wave intensified once again across Jammu and Kashmir, with large parts of the Kashmir Valley recording sub-zero night temperatures, even as the higher reaches continued to reel under severe cold conditions, officials said on Tuesday.
Figures compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather and accessed by news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC showed that Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of minus 1.8°C, while Qazigund recorded minus 2.2°C and Pahalgam minus 2.6°C. Kupwara also settled at minus 1.8°C, Kokernag at minus 0.6°C, whereas Gulmarg stayed just above freezing at 0.5°C.
Pampore and Pulwama were the coldest places in the Valley, both logging minus 4.0°C, followed by Shopian at minus 3.8°C. Anantnag recorded minus 3.3°C, Baramulla minus 2.9°C, Budgam minus 2.8°C, Bandipora minus 2.2°C and Awantipora minus 2.6°C. Srinagar Airport reported a low of minus 2.0°C. Zojila Pass witnessed extreme cold at minus 17.0°C, while observations from Zethan Rafiabad could not be recorded as the station remained non-functional.
In the Jammu region, temperatures stayed relatively milder. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 8.4°C, while Jammu Airport settled at 6.9°C. Banihal recorded 1.7°C, Batote 7.1°C, Katra 10.4°C, Bhaderwah 2.9°C, Kathua 8.8°C, Udhampur 4.0°C and Ramban 4.6°C. Samba logged 3.5°C, Rajouri 1.0°C, Kishtwar 8.3°C, Reasi 6.5°C and Doda 6.2°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 4.8°C and Kargil minus 4.2°C, while Drass remained one of the coldest places at minus 8.2°C. Nyoma recorded minus 14.3°C, Padum minus 9.1°C, Stakna minus 6.4°C, Tangste minus 7.4°C and Upshi minus 6.9°C. Nubra Valley recorded minus 1.9°C, Khaltse minus 1.7°C and Chuchot minus 5.2°C, while Garkone registered a comparatively milder 0.9°C.
Meanwhile, the weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir till December 20.
