Taxi Stand Removed in Raj Bagh to Ease Traffic Congestion: DySP Traffic

Srinagar, Dec 2,: The Traffic Police on Tuesday removed a taxi stand in the Raj Bagh area of Srinagar, citing it as a major bottleneck contributing to daily traffic congestion in the locality.

DySP Traffic City Suhail Reshi said the decision was taken after the location was identified as a consistent source of traffic jams.

“The spot had become a bottleneck and a regular cause of congestion. It was necessary to remove it in the larger public interest,” he said, adding that the drive to remove all such traffic obstacles across the city would continue.

He said the traffic department is working on a city-wide plan to identify and eliminate congestion points that interrupt smooth vehicular movement, especially during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the Taxi Union president clarified that the action does not amount to removing taxis from Raj Bagh but is merely a relocation to a more suitable place.

“We have been given an alternate location and this is only a shift from one point to another to ensure there is no traffic jam,” he said.

He added that the new location has been authorised by the R&B Department, allowing taxi operators to function without affecting traffic flow.

Locals in the area said the removed stand often caused long traffic queues, particularly during morning and evening rush hours, and welcomed the move as a step toward better traffic management in the area.

Traffic Police said further adjustments to parking and stand locations are being assessed in other parts of Srinagar to reduce congestion and improve commuter movement. [KNT]
