Crime Trail Cut Short: Sopore Police Solve Two Thefts, Accused in Custody

Sopore: Sopore Police on Monday reported a breakthrough in two separate theft cases registered at Police Station Bomai and Police Station Sopore, leading to the arrest of two accused persons and the recovery of stolen cash and merchandise.

In the first case, Police Station Bomai had registered FIR No. 60/2025 under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint by Abdul Rashid Mir of Nathipora, who reported theft at his shop, Al-Fajar Departmental Store.

After examining multiple suspects, police zeroed in on Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Abdul Jabbar Lone of Yahama Handwara, who was called for questioning on November 29. During interrogation, police said he confessed to the crime and disclosed the location where the stolen goods had been hidden. Acting on the leads, a police team conducted a search and recovered the stolen property from an orchard near the river at Nathipora.

In the second case, Police Post Bus Stand received a complaint from Ghulam Mohammad Kanjwal of Sir Syed Abad, Sopore, regarding theft of cash from his bakery outlet. Police Station Sopore registered FIR No. 268/2025 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and immediately launched an investigation.

According to police officials, the accused, identified as Shakir Sadiq Bhat, was traced within just 12 hours of the incident and apprehended from the premises of Sub District Hospital Sopore. During questioning, he also confessed to the theft and revealed the location where the stolen cash had been concealed. The money was subsequently recovered.

Police authorities said further questioning of both accused is underway to verify whether they are linked to any other similar offences in the area. Officials said legal proceedings have been initiated and both cases are being pursued under relevant provisions of law. [KNT]
