Srinagar, Nov 21,: The Omar Abdullah–led government has taken a firm stand against the proposed twenty percent peak-hour electricity surcharge, stating that no additional burden will be allowed on the people of Jammu and Kashmir at a time when winter intensifies hardships.
Senior NC leader Tanvir Sadiq said the government views power as a basic necessity during harsh Kashmiri winters, not a luxury that can be subjected to punitive pricing. He said the administration will not permit any unfair or ill-timed proposal that deepens the suffering of households already struggling with cold weather and economic pressures.
Sadiq said the government has made it clear that the surcharge proposal is unacceptable and will not be implemented under any circumstances.
The statement comes amid widespread public criticism and reactions from several political leaders opposing the suggested hike in morning and evening tariffs. [KNT]
