Kupwara MLA Contacts Himachal Governor After Viral Video Showing Harassment of Kashmiri Vendors

Kupwara, Nov 20,: A day after videos surfaced on social media showing Kashmiri vendors allegedly being harassed in Himachal Pradesh, Kupwara MLA Fayaz Mir has taken up the issue with the Governor of the state, seeking immediate intervention.

Mir said the incident reflects a growing pattern of profiling Kashmiris earning their livelihood outside Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the videos circulating online have triggered distress among families back home.

The MLA said he spoke with Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and apprised him of the concerns raised by people in Kashmir. According to Mir, the Governor assured that he would speak to the Director General of Police and the concerned Deputy Commissioner to ensure necessary action is taken.

Earlier, Mir publicly questioned why Kashmiris are repeatedly viewed through the prism of terrorism and urged both the Governor and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to ensure safety and dignity for Kashmiris working in the state.

The MLA expressed hope that the Himachal administration will move swiftly to address the matter and prevent such occurrences, adding that Kashmiris working outside the region deserve equal treatment and a secure environment. [KNT]
