Western disturbance to affect J&K from late afternoon, light rain in plains and snowfall over higher reaches: Director MeT

Srinagar, Tuesday, Nov 4: Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said on Tuesday that a western disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to turn the weather cloudy from late afternoon, leading to a spell of precipitation across the Union Territory.

He said there are chances of snowfall over the higher reaches and light rain in the plains through tomorrow. The official added that a noticeable fall in day temperatures is likely during this period.

“In the Jammu region, light rainfall is possible, while Doda and other higher reaches may experience snowfall. Zojila is also likely to receive a light spell of snow,” Dr Mukhtar said, advising travellers and locals to plan accordingly. He said the activity will persist till tomorrow before easing out.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told reporters that shallow to moderate precipitation is expected at scattered places during the influence of this system. After the brief spell, the outlook indicates mainly dry weather around November 16 and 17 across Jammu and Kashmir, with cold mornings and cooler days prevailing once the system moves away.

The department has suggested standard precautions for hilly stretches where slippery surfaces and brief traffic disruptions cannot be ruled out. KNT
