Encroachment Removed from Babademb Road in Srinagar, Locals Thank Authorities

Srinagar:Locals have appreciated the timely action of law-enforcing agencies for clearing long-standing encroachments from the Naqashpora–Babademb road in Srinagar, which had been partially blocked for months by unauthorized occupations and abandoned vehicles.

The road, which connects key localities in the city, had been narrowed down to a single functional lane as one entire stretch was occupied by mechanics and vested interest groups who used the area to park or repair damaged vehicles. The encroachment had been causing severe traffic disruptions, inconvenience to pedestrians, and safety concerns for commuters.

After the issue was highlighted by News Agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) earlier this week, quoting locals who described the situation as a “persistent public nuisance,” authorities swung into action.

A police team subsequently visited the site, assessed the situation, and cleared the occupied portion of the road. The encroached vehicles and structures were removed, allowing smooth two-way traffic flow.

Locals of Naqashpora and adjoining areas expressed gratitude to the Srinagar Police and other departments for responding to public concern. “We had been urging the authorities to act for a long time. Thanks to the prompt intervention, the road has finally been freed,” said a shopkeeper from the area.

Locals have also appealed to authorities to maintain strict vigilance to prevent re-encroachment, stressing that continuous monitoring is essential to keep the public spaces accessible and safe. [KNT]
