Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday urged MLA Mir Saifullah to withdraw his Private Member’s Bill concerning the regularisation of casual labourers and daily wagers, stating that the government has already constituted a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary to review the issue in detail.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister acknowledged the significance of the matter, stressing that the government was committed to addressing the concerns of thousands of casual and daily wage workers across Jammu and Kashmir. However, he emphasized the need for precise data before taking any legislative action.
“We want to resolve this issue in a structured and fair manner, but we must have exact and verified figures before proceeding,” Omar Abdullah told the House, appealing to Mir Saifullah to await the committee’s final recommendations.
The Chief Minister’s assurance comes amid mounting pressure from several legislators seeking regularisation for long-serving casual workers across departments. The committee is expected to submit its findings in the coming weeks. [KNT]
