Drug Peddler Arrested in Qaimoh, Narcotics Recovered

Kulgam: Kulgam Police arrested a suspected drug peddler during a naka checking operation at Khudwani Bypass on Thursday.

Police said a naka was established by a team from Police Station Qaimoh to check suspicious persons and vehicles. During the operation, one individual identified as Talib Hussain Sheikh, son of Khurshid Hussain Sheikh, resident of KG Raina, Wanpoh, was found moving suspiciously while carrying a bag.

Upon searching the suspect, police recovered 30 grams of charas and 500 grams of grinded cannabis-like contraband substance from his possession. The accused was immediately arrested on the spot.

Following the recovery, a case FIR No. 79/2025 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Qaimoh, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify other possible links in the network.

A senior police officer said that Kulgam Police remain committed to eradicating the drug trade, which poses a grave threat to society, especially to the youth. “Drug peddlers are determined to destroy lives, but we will not allow them to succeed. Continuous efforts are being made to trace and dismantle such networks,” the officer stated.

Police have once again urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their crusade against drugs, asking citizens to share information about any suspicious activities related to narcotics in their localities. [KNT]
