Srinagar: Locals in Padshahi Bagh, on the outskirts of Srinagar, staged a protest on Wednesday demanding immediate repair and restoration of the main road in the area, which they said has been lying in a dilapidated condition for years.
The aggrieved locals took to the road, blocking traffic for a brief period to draw the attention of the authorities. They alleged that despite repeated appeals to the concerned departments, no concrete action has been taken to improve the road, which has become nearly unusable due to potholes, stagnant water, and broken surface patches.
“Padshahi Bagh road has turned into a nightmare for commuters and pedestrians alike. We have approached officials several times, but our requests are ignored every time,” said one of the protesting locals to the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
Protesters said the poor condition of the road is affecting daily life and causing damage to vehicles. “Even ambulances and school buses find it difficult to move through this stretch,” another resident complained.
The locals urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Roads and Buildings Department to take swift action and start repair work without further delay.
They warned that if the authorities continue to neglect the issue, they would intensify their protest in the coming days. [KNT]
