Shopian: In a sustained drive against illegal mining, Shopian Police have seized a total of seven vehicles, including five tractors, one tipper, and one dumper, allegedly involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah and adjoining areas of Keegam and Heerpora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
According to police, four tractors were intercepted by personnel from Police Station Shopian while operating without valid royalty or transportation documents. In this connection, an FIR bearing number 218/2025 has been registered under relevant sections of law, and investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action, a dumper bearing registration number JK19-7825 was seized by Police Post Keegam for illegal mineral transportation. A separate case under FIR number 217/2025 has been registered at Police Station Shopian.
Meanwhile, Police Station Heerpora seized one tipper and one tractor found operating without valid royalty papers. The case has been registered under FIR number 48/2025, and further investigation is underway.
Officials said that the operations are part of an ongoing campaign to safeguard the district’s natural resources from illegal extraction. The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict action against violators and ensuring accountability in mineral trade.
Shopian Police have urged locals to cooperate in this anti-mining drive by reporting illegal activities in their areas. Authorities assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and that stringent legal measures will be pursued against those found involved in illegal mining or transportation.
