Single-Storey House Destroyed in Massive Fire in Kulgam’s Devsar

Kulgam: A single-storey residential house was completely gutted in a massive fire that broke out in Cheyan area of Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district during pre-dawn hours of Monday, officials said.

The house, belonging to Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Jabar Shah, was engulfed in flames before locals and fire service teams could reach the spot. Despite prompt efforts by firefighters assisted by locals, the blaze caused extensive damage to the structure and household items.

Officials said that fire tenders from nearby stations were rushed to the area to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining houses. The operation continued for several hours before the fire was finally brought under control.

No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident. Preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire, though a case has been registered to ascertain the exact cause.

Locals have appealed to the district administration to extend immediate relief to the affected family, which lost property and belongings worth lakhs in the devastating incident. [KNT]
