Zainapora Death Case: Medical Report Rules Out Foul Play, Cops Ask Media to Verify Facts

Shopian: The mystery surrounding the death of a woman from Takibal Reban area of Zainapora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, which had sparked concern in August this year, has been clarified after the post-mortem report revealed that she died of a heart attack.

On August 21, police had received information that a 27-year-old woman, identified as Urfi Jan, wife of Showkat Ahmad Lone, had been brought to Yaripora hospital in an unconscious and suspicious condition. Doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead, prompting police to initiate proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to ascertain the cause of death.

The sudden and unexplained nature of her demise had led to widespread speculation on social media and among locals, with some questioning whether foul play was involved.

However, officials confirmed today that the post-mortem examination ruled out any external injury or poisoning, concluding that the cause of death was a heart attack.

A senior police official, while confirming the findings to the news agency Kashmir News Trust cautioned the media against drawing premature conclusions in such sensitive matters. “It is counterproductive to arrive at conclusions before proper verification, as it only creates unnecessary confusion,” the officer said.

The official added that police acted promptly and transparently from the outset, ensuring all legal and medical formalities were followed to establish the facts. With the post-mortem findings now confirming a natural cause of death, police have urged the public and media to avoid speculation and rely on verified information. [KNT]
