Gandhi, Shastri’s Ideals a Guiding Light for Nation: Altaf Thakur

Calls for following the path of non violence, truth & simplicity

Srinagar, Oct 2: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur on Thursday paid glowing tributes to the two great leaders, calling their contributions “timeless and inspirational.”

Thakur said Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of truth, simplicity and non-violence transformed the freedom movement and laid the foundation of India’s moral strength. “Gandhi Ji’s life and principles continue to inspire the world. His message of peace and harmony is more relevant today than ever before,” Thakur observed.

Remembering Shastri Ji, he said the late Prime Minister’s slogan of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” remains a guiding force for the nation. “Shastri Ji epitomised honesty, humility and dedication towards the welfare of farmers and soldiers, the true backbone of our country,” Thakur added.

He said the best tribute to Gandhi and Shastri would be to uphold their ideals by working for the upliftment of the poor and marginalised sections of society. “It is our duty to carry forward their vision of a self-reliant, peaceful and progressive India,” Thakur said.
