Shopian: Police on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband substance from his possession during a naka checking operation in Heerpora jurisdiction.
Officials said a police team from Police Station Heerpora had set up a checkpoint at Chotipora Sedow when a man moving suspiciously was intercepted. On search, 652 grams of charas-like substance were recovered from him.
The accused was identified as Irshad Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, resident of Hanjipora Kulgam. A case under FIR No. 45/2025 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Police said further investigation is underway to trace his links and the source of the contraband.
The operation was executed by SHO Heerpora Inspector Waseem Ahmad, supervised by DySP Headquarters Shopian Imtiyaz Ahmad (JKPS), under the overall command of SSP Shopian Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS).
Police have urged locals to support the anti-drug drive and share information about narcotics-related activities on helpline 9596768831, assuring confidentiality of informers.
