GST Reform a Gift of Happiness to Every Household: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday hailed the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms as a transformative step that will ease the financial burden on every household in the country. In a post on social media platform X, Shah said the reductions represent a “gift of happiness” for citizens across all sections of society.

“Making GST zero on many dairy products, or unprecedented reductions on everyday items like soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair oil, shampoo, next-gen GST reform has brought the gift of happiness to every class’s home,” Shah wrote.

The Home Minister said that zero GST on life insurance, health insurance, and senior citizen policies, as well as exemptions for 33 life-saving drugs and diagnostic kits, will bring relief to families. He added that minimal GST on oxygen, surgical instruments, and medical, dental, and veterinary devices will significantly boost healthcare affordability.

Highlighting the benefits for farmers, Shah said the reduction of GST on agricultural equipment and fertilizers has generated optimism in the farming community. He also noted that GST reforms will make vehicle purchases more affordable for citizens.

“These reforms will bring historic growth in the savings of the countrymen. Farmers are excited with the GST reduction in the agriculture equipment and fertilizer sector, and now citizens won’t have to think more for vehicle purchases either,” Shah posted.

Shah further emphasised that the reform will also contribute to the country’s push for self-reliance. He urged people to support indigenous manufacturing and products. “This GST reform will also boost self-reliance. You too adopt indigenous products in daily use items,” he appealed.

The remarks from the Union Home Minister come after the recent decisions taken by the GST Council, which announced major relief on essential goods and services, aimed at reducing inflationary pressure and enhancing consumer savings. [KNT]
