LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates New Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Srinagar

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the new Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Qamarwari, Srinagar, marking the group’s 5th hospital in Jammu & Kashmir and the first in Srinagar. Located at M.A. Plaza, Qamarwari Chowk, near Ansari House, this 8,000 sq. ft., 3-storey facility represents a significant milestone in expanding high-quality eye care services across Northern India. The newly launched centre is equipped with advanced surgical theatres, the latest diagnostic technology, and specialized departments offering a comprehensive range of ophthalmic services—including Cataract, Refractive Surgery, Retina, Glaucoma, Squint, Paediatric Ophthalmology, and Cornea care.

Speaking at the inauguration of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Srinagar, LG Sinha said J&K is among the leading regions in the country in terms of healthcare development.

“Before 2019, the region had only four medical colleges. Today, there are 11 medical colleges, two AIIMS, and an extensive Indian System of Medicine network,” he said,

LG Sinha added that, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s universal health coverage has guaranteed health insurance of ₹5 lakh for every citizen of J&K.”

Sinha said medical infrastructure has expanded rapidly with new super-specialty hospitals, private facilities, and additional colleges across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

He expressed hope that the new hospital will provide quality eye care on par with metropolitan cities and urged the institution to organize regular outreach camps in rural and border areas.

Clinical Experts at Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, Srinagar: At the helm of Clinical services at the new hospital is Dr. Atif Ali Mir along with the team of Dr. Shazia Shafi, Dr. Athar Fayaz Shah, and Dr. Arshi Nazir Shikari. Moreover, there will be industry seniors like Dr Kaladevi S., Clinical Head, Chennai Zone, Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, who’ll be visiting the facility regularly to meet patients and perform complex eye surgeries. Their collective expertise ensures that patients in the Kashmir valley now have access to world-class vision care closer to home.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Services: The Srinagar hospital integrates cutting-edge medical infrastructure such as, Modular operation theatres, High-definition imaging systems including OCT, fundus photography, and corneal topography, Dedicated units for LASIK & Refractive Surgery, Squint Correction, Retina services, and Paediatric Eye Care, EMR-based consultations, in-house optical and pharmacy units, and full insurance & billing support

The inauguration event was graced by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Ansul Garg, Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Syed Abid Rashid Shah, dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary, Commissioner Secretary Science and Technology.
