Ramban, Sep 2,: Continuous heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday led to fresh disruptions along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway with cracks appearing in the Ramban flyover and shooting stones reported from several stretches.

Officials said the flyover in Ramban developed visible cracks in the afternoon, raising safety concerns for commuters. Simultaneously, intermittent shooting stones from hillocks were reported at multiple points on the highway, prompting traffic authorities to remain on high alert.

The Jammu region witnessed relentless showers since early morning, with Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar and Kathua districts recording heavy precipitation. In south Kashmir, steady rainfall was reported in Qazigund while the higher reaches of Kulgam and Anantnag also received continuous downpour.

Authorities cautioned that the prevailing wet weather could increase the risk of landslides, mudslides and further damage to road infrastructure in vulnerable stretches. Commuters have been advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel along the highway until conditions improve. [KNT]
