Sajad Lone slams J&K Govt over takeover of 215 schools, calls it “shame and shamelessness”

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone has launched a sharp attack on the government after it ordered the takeover of 215 schools allegedly linked with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami.

Reacting to the decision, Lone said the move exposes the complicity of the elected government in actions that undermine public trust. “Two hundred and fifteen schools forcibly taken over by the J&K Government. And no prizes for guessing. The elected government has passed the order,” he remarked.

He accused the ruling party of double standards, saying: “Shame and shamelessness have assumed new meanings in this government. They are setting new standards in servility. And just to recall the sermons and edicts this party once passed against its opponents.”

The Peoples Conference leader further alleged that the government was a willing partner in controversial decisions, whether it be the termination of employees or other punitive measures. “Be under no illusions. This elected government is a party t o all acts undertaken. Be it mailings or termination of employees, they are equal partners. They have been equal partners in the past and they will be equal partners in the future,” he said.

Calling the ruling party the “A team,” Lone added that it had always stood aligned with decisions that went against the interests of the people.

The J&K government on Saturday formally began the process of taking over 215 schools, citing their affiliation with Jamaat-e-Islami or its educational wing Falah-e-Aam Trust. Officials have maintained that the decision is intended to safeguard the future of thousands of students, but the move has triggered strong political reactions across the Valley. [KNT]
