Ravinder Raina hails Centre’s move to introduce accountability bills in Parliament

Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party’s former Jammu and Kashmir President Ravinder Raina hails Centre’s move to introduce accountability bills in Parliament on Wednesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to introduce three major bills in the Lok Sabha, including proposals aimed at removing holders of top constitutional posts facing serious criminal or corruption charges.

Raina said the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening democratic accountability in the country. “For the first time in India’s history, provisions are being brought in that would allow for the removal of a Chief Minister, or any Minister, if they are facing serious criminal or corruption charges. This is a path-breaking reform to ensure clean governance,” he stated.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the move, Raina said the bills reflect the government’s commitment to transparency and integrity in public life. “This initiative will not only deter misuse of power but also enhance people’s faith in the democratic institutions of the nation,” he added.

The bills, which include a Constitution Amendment Bill, an amendment to the Union Territories Act, 1963, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, are expected to be tabled in the Lok Sabha later today by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. [KNT]
