pulwama:The Cyber Crime Cell of District Police Pulwama has cautioned the public against downloading fake APK files being circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms in the name of JK Bank Scheme, PM Kisan Scheme, and PM Yojana.
According to the advisory, these malicious applications are designed to resemble official apps but can compromise users’ personal, financial, and banking information once installed. Fraudsters, it said, are especially targeting farmers by falsely claiming that these apps would expedite financial transfers or provide additional benefits under the PM Kisan Yojana.
Police warned that clicking on such links or installing these APK files allows cybercriminals unauthorized access to mobile phones. “Many farmers are not digitally aware and are therefore vulnerable to these scams,” the advisory stated.
Citizens have been advised to download only from trusted sources such as Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The public has also been urged to report suspicious links or files on the national helpline number 1930 or through the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
The advisory further said that complaints can also be reported directly to the Cyber Crime Cell Unit of District Police Pulwama via email at cybercrime-pulwama@jkpolice.gov.in or on contact number 9541943103. [KNT]
