Heroin-Like Substance Seized in Kupwara; Two Held During Naka Checking

Kupwara, August 19: During routine patrolling and naka checking near the Radio Station at Batergam, a police team from Police Station Kupwara intercepted a suspicious vehicle—a Hyundai i10 Sports (registration number JK15A-6188)—moving towards Kupwara. When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by alert police personnel.

Upon verification, the driver was identified as Afaq Mohiuddin Bhat, son of Gh. Mohiuddin Bhat, a resident of Aloosa Bandipore. The woman accompanying him identified herself as Muneeba Begum, wife of Mehrajudin Bhat, also a resident of Aloosa Bandipore.

During the search, police recovered a heroin-like substance from the possession of the female passenger.

In this connection, an FIR No. 261/2025 has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Kupwara. Further investigation has been taken up.

Kupwara Police reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate in the ongoing fight against the drug menace.
