Rail Services Hit in Jammu Division as Floods Submerge Kathua Tracks

Kathua: Rail services in Jammu division were thrown out of gear on Monday after incessant rainfall triggered flash floods in Kathua district, submerging railway tracks and forcing authorities to suspend train operations.

Officials said continuous heavy showers since early morning led to overflowing streams and accumulation of water near the rail line in Kathua. Train services were subsequently halted as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and railway staff.

“Movement of trains along the Jammu–Pathankot section has been temporarily stopped after tracks were inundated at several points in Kathua. Technical teams have been rushed to the affected areas to assess the damage,” an official told Kashmir News Trust.

The disruption has caused delays in long-distance trains passing through Jammu division, affecting connectivity with other parts of the country. Railway authorities said efforts are underway to restore services, but operations will only resume once the tracks are declared safe.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reported that Kathua and adjoining districts are experiencing “massive and continuous” rainfall, with the possibility of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. Residents living close to rivers and streams have been advised to remain alert.

Authorities said disaster management teams are on standby, and district administration is monitoring the evolving situation closely. No loss of life has been reported so far. [KNT]
