Soldier killed in accidental firing in Doda

Doda: An army soldier died after his service rifle accidentally discharged inside a camp in Doda district of Jammu, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Sarna camp in Bhaderwah when Sepoy Suresh Biswal, a resident of Odisha, was on guard duty. Colleagues heard a gunshot from his post and rushed to find him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Superintendent of Police Bhaderwah, Vinod Sharma, said preliminary investigation suggests the soldier lost his life due to accidental discharge while unloading the chamber of his service rifle.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of death. [KNT]
