Two Dead, Two Injured as Tree and Boulder Crush Tent in Kulgam’s Kanzal Pathri Kund

Kulgam:Two members of a nomadic family lost their lives and two others were injured after a tree and a boulder, dislodged by heavy rainfall and strong winds, collapsed onto their tent in Kanzal Pathri Kund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district last night.

Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the tragic incident occurred during the night amid intense downpour and gusty winds in the upper forested belt of Kund. A massive tree and a rock reportedly got uprooted and rolled down the slope, landing directly on a makeshift tent housing a nomadic family from Reasi district.

Two persons died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Shafi Bokher and his daughter-in-law Reshma Begum. Two others from the family sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Taking note of the incident, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Shafi Khan, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Waqar Ahmad Giri and senior officers from the police and civil administration, rushed to the spot to oversee rescue and relief measures.

Meanwhile, local police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. [KNT]
