Inquiry Initiated After Missing BSF Soldier Found Traveling Without Permission

Srinagar: An inquiry has been initiated by the Border Security Force (BSF) after one of its personnel, earlier reported missing from his unit in Srinagar, was traced in Delhi while allegedly traveling to his hometown without official permission.

The soldier, identified as Constable (General Duty) Sugam Choudhary, aged 24, was serving with ‘C’ Company of the 60th Battalion BSF. He was found absent without leave from the battalion headquarters located in Panthachowk at around 5:00 PM on July 31, 2025.

“He was traveling to his hometown without prior authorization,” an official confirmed, adding that the soldier has since been located and is reported to be safe.

The BSF has confirmed that an internal inquiry has been ordered to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized absence. The nature of any disciplinary action will be determined based on the outcome of the probe.

Officials say that while the soldier’s safety has brought relief, questions surrounding protocol breach and unauthorized movement are being taken seriously in line with the force’s disciplinary standards. [KNT]
