Delhi High Court Issues Notice to NIA Over Exorbitant Travel Costs Imposed on Er Rashid

New Delhi : In a significant development in the ongoing legal case involving incarcerated MP Engineer Rashid, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), seeking a response on the alleged imposition of exorbitant travel expenses on the jailed parliamentarian for attending sessions of the Indian Parliament.

Engineer Rashid led Awami Itihaad Party spokesperson, Inam Un Nabi said the court has taken cognizance of the financial burden reportedly being placed on Er Rashid, an elected representative, in order to exercise his constitutional right to represent his constituency in Parliament.

The case is scheduled to be heard on July 29—the same day the court will also deliberate on Er Rashid’s regular bail plea.

“The imposition of heavy travel expenses on an elected MP to attend Parliament undermines the very spirit of parliamentary democracy,” said Inam Un Nabi. “Our fight for justice, democracy, and representation continues with full commitment,” he added. [KNT]
