Srinagar-Jammu Highway Disrupted Again as Landslides Hit Ramban Stretch

Ramban: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was once again thrown into disarray on Wednesday as fresh landslides struck multiple locations near Ramban, triggered by relentless intermittent rainfall across the region.

The latest disruption has sparked fresh travel alerts and renewed concerns over the fragile condition of this vital corridor connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.

According to officials, landslides occurred at Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, and other vulnerable spots in the Ramban sector, leading to traffic congestion and partial closure of the highway. While efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore vehicular movement, slippery conditions and falling debris have made the operations both risky and slow.

In response to the worsening weather situation, authorities have issued a fresh advisory urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel along hilly terrain and remain cautious amid the possibility of more landslides and shooting stones.

Meanwhile, educational institutions across several districts, including Poonch and Udhampur in the Jammu division, continue to remain closed for the second consecutive day, with district administrations citing safety concerns for students and staff.

“Public is advised to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to landslides and flash floods. Travel should be avoided unless absolutely necessary,” an official advisory from the Disaster Management Department stated. KNT
