Pulwama Man Dies Amid Family’s Allegations of Medical Negligence, Hospital Authorities Deny Any Lapse in Care

Pulwama: A 40-year-old man from Shith Parepora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district died at the District Hospital Pulwama on Monday, with his family members alleging medical negligence and delay in ambulance response as contributing factors in his untimely demise.

The deceased has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Thokar, who had reportedly complained of severe epigastric pain accompanied by nausea before being rushed to the hospital.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital today said that the patient was administered PPI and metoclopramide injections and advised an ECG for further evaluation.

“Soon after receiving the injection, he felt dizzy and was immediately shifted to the emergency ward. Subsequently, doctors referred him to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for advanced care,” he said.

However, the family members of the deceased allege that precious time was lost due to an inordinate delay in arranging an ambulance and further claimed that the treatment provided was inadequate.

“They kept delaying the ambulance and the initial care. Had there been timely attention, perhaps he could have survived,” a grieving relative said outside the hospital premises.

Responding to the accusations, hospital authorities have firmly denied any negligence in the treatment protocol, maintaining that all necessary procedures were followed as per clinical standards. [KNT]
