Shopian: Political parties and civil society groups in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have jointly called for a complete shutdown on July 23 to protest the alleged politically motivated relocation of the Deputy Chief Education Officer’s office from the district.
The announcement was made during a press conference where leaders from across the political spectrum, along with social activists, condemned the move and termed it a deliberate attempt to undermine the district’s administrative structure.
“This is not an administrative necessity but a politically driven decision meant to weaken Shopian’s representation,” the speakers alleged.
The participants warned that if the decision is not rolled back immediately, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days.
The bandh call has garnered support from various stakeholders, including traders, transporters, and civil society organizations, who pledged to observe a peaceful shutdown in solidarity. [KNT]
