CM Omar Abdullah Chairs SKICC Board of Governors Meet

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired the Board of Governors meeting of the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), underscoring the government’s commitment to reviving the iconic institution through self-sustaining strategies and diversified cultural outreach.

The official handle of the Chief Minister’s Office posted on X, “The Chief Minister chaired the Board of Governors meeting of SKICC today.”

According to the statement, the meeting placed special emphasis on developing MICE tourism, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions, while also expanding the scope of cultural programming at the SKICC to attract more local and international attention.

A key point of the discussion centered around reducing SKICC’s dependence on government funding. “Emphasis was laid on promoting MICE tourism and cultural events, while working towards making SKICC financially self-sufficient and no longer dependent on the public exchequer,” the post noted.

Infrastructure development was also a priority, with plans discussed for modernizing the centre and enhancing its appeal to event organizers and cultural delegations. A larger outreach strategy was proposed to position SKICC as a premier destination for high-profile gatherings in the region. [KNT]
