Srinagar,June 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting fluctuating conditions over the coming days. According to IMD scientist Mukhtar Ahmad, the region has been experiencing rising temperatures since the third week of June, marking the onset of a heat spell across various districts.
He explained, “From the third week, a lot of heat was witnessed throughout J&K. And in some places, especially in the third week, the monsoon was set, especially in Uttarakhand and the neighbouring states.” This shift contributed to favorable conditions for rain in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu division, in particular, recorded significant rainfall on the 20th and 21st of June. However, the meteorological department now anticipates a brief lull in precipitation. “In the coming days, especially today and tomorrow, the rainfall activity will be less,” Mukhtar Ahmad said, cautioning that this may lead to hot and humid weather, with the possibility of a heat wave developing in some parts of the region.
The department expects a resurgence in rainfall between June 25 and June 27, with forecasts indicating moderate to heavy showers in several areas. These weather activities, according to the IMD, are likely to persist till July 2. Despite the expected precipitation, the scientist noted that it won’t be a spell of continuous rain.
“There is no continuous precipitation, especially after 28 June, so brief showers can be seen in the morning and evening,” Mukhtar Ahmad added, suggesting that residents may experience short-duration rain events rather than widespread or all-day rainfall.
Authorities have advised people, especially those in heat-prone and low-lying areas, to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during spells of high humidity and possible intense downpours.
